FOLO Farm
Ulu Tiram, Johor | Organic & Regenerative Farm • Community Supported Agriculture • Food Waste Composting
The Farm That Started With a Simple Question: What Are We Feeding Our Loved Ones?
FOLO stands for Feed Our Loved Ones.
But the name began with more than just a farming idea.
In 2014, a group of childhood friends returning to Johor from overseas began noticing something troubling close to home. Some of their loved ones were experiencing health problems, and the group started questioning the food they were eating.
Their response was simple:
If we care about our families, why not take responsibility for the food we feed them?
So they decided to grow it themselves.
With little farming experience, the friends started FOLO Farm in 2015, working with local farmer Ah Lek to grow pesticide-free, nutrient-rich vegetables.
What began as an attempt to feed their own families has since grown into something much bigger.
Today, FOLO is a community farm built around organic vegetables, soil regeneration, food waste recovery, and the belief that food should bring people closer together.
More Than Growing Vegetables
At FOLO, farming doesn’t stop at the harvest.
The farm has built a system where food waste becomes food again.
Organic waste from homes, restaurants, hotels and food businesses is collected and transformed through composting into nutrient-rich organic matter for the farm. FOLO says its current operations divert large amounts of food waste while using the resulting compost to regenerate soil and grow food.
In other words:
Food waste → Compost → Healthy soil → Vegetables → Families
Nothing is treated as simply waste. It becomes part of the next harvest.
FOLO’s composting work has also been documented as part of its organic farming model since its early years, when the farm was already processing food and vegetable waste to support its crops.
A Farm Built Around Community
FOLO follows a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model.
Instead of simply growing vegetables and selling whatever happens to be harvested, families become members of the farm and share in both the harvest and the realities of farming.
Members support the farm directly and receive fresh, seasonal vegetables.
When the harvest is abundant, there is more to share.
When the weather or growing conditions are difficult, members experience those challenges alongside the farmers.
It creates a different relationship between farmer and consumer.
Not just buyer and seller.
Farmer and community.
FOLO describes CSA as turning food from a transaction into a relationship.
What Grows Here?
FOLO grows a rotating selection of fresh, organic vegetables based on what the farm and season allow.
The farm has also experimented with less conventional crops and microgreens, while its CSA model allows members to experience different vegetables throughout the growing cycles.
A Living Classroom
FOLO is also a place to learn.
The farm hosts open days, farm tours, workshops, community programmes and educational activities that reconnect people with food, soil and farming. Its recent programmes have included learning around soil, compost, Malaysian food plants and regenerative farming.
Because for FOLO, farming is not only about producing vegetables.
It is about helping people understand where food comes from.
And what happens before it reaches their plate.
Experience FOLO Farm
We believe supporting farmers means more than helping people buy their produce.
It means understanding the people behind the food.
At FOLO, we see a community of people working together to build a different food system, from the farmers in the field to the people managing the farm, making compost, connecting with families and keeping everything moving behind the scenes.
That is the kind of agricultural community we want to help more people discover.
Because when we know the people behind our food, we start caring differently about what happens to them, their farms and the land they depend on.
Come closer to the people, soil and systems behind your food.
