Naveen’s Journey:
At just 20 years old, Naveen’s life has already been shaped by resilience and determination. Born into a lower-income family in Kuala Lumpur, Naveen faced a devastating loss at the age of 8 when his mother passed away from dengue fever. This tragedy left his father as the sole provider for Naveen and his three siblings.
Despite the challenges of growing up in a single-parent household with limited means, Naveen has persevered. Now, as the second oldest of four children, he’s not only pursuing his own dreams but also contributing to his family’s well-being.
Currently, Naveen is studying cybersecurity at Polytechnic Mersing in Johor, working towards a diploma that could open doors to a stable career. However, his true passion lies in a field seemingly far off from his studies – agriculture.
A Vision Rooted in Community:
Naveen’s time in Mersing has opened his eyes to the struggles faced by rural communities. He’s witnessed firsthand how basic necessities, including fresh produce, often come at a premium price for Mersing residents. This realisation sparked an idea: what if he could combine modern technology with agriculture to benefit his adopted community?
To turn his passion into reality, Naveen joined the Sayur Kita Asia program. This incredible opportunity has taught him the ropes of hydroponic farming, giving him hands-on experience and knowledge in modern farming techniques.
Naveen envisions providing affordable, locally grown produce to Mersing residents, bridging the gap between urban agricultural innovations and rural needs. His ambitious plan involves creating a two-acre hydroponic farm in Mersing. This isn’t just about growing vegetables; it’s about cultivating change.
Naveen sees agriculture as more than just a business venture. For him, it’s a connection to our roots, a way to understand the value of hard work, and a means to build a stronger community. His project isn’t just about feeding people; it’s about nurturing a sustainable, self-reliant future for people in Mersing.
The Challenges Ahead:
Balancing his studies with his agricultural ambitions is no small feat. Naveen faces the dual challenges of time management and securing initial funding. Yet, his determination remains unshaken. He sees these obstacles not as barriers, but as stepping stones toward realizing his vision.
To make his vision a reality, Naveen is seeking RM3000 to fund two rows of Hydroponic farm:
- Hydroponic equipment and supplies
- Seeds and growing materials
- initial operating costs
- Set up water filtration systems
